I imagine Belle’s softer moments mostly happen when she’s around the children. So Gaston enjoys the times where they’re all together. It’s the only time, really, that he sees her genuinely smile and laugh.
But then when the kids go to bed or go to play with friends, leaving their parents alone… Well, it’s like a 50/50 split on whether or not some of that softness will linger in Belle, or the switch will be flipped and she’ll turn cold on Gaston again.
Maybe, as time progresses in their marriage and the number of children increases, the split will shift more towards softness than coldness.
But it won’t disappear completely.
