Over the last week, this old photo of Maude Adams, an American Broadway actress of the early 1900s, has been my most recent restoration project.

On the far left is the original image, which I found over at the New York Public Library image archive.

The middle image is what I ended up with once I was done cleaning it up. I repaired the minor damage, then fixed the contrast to make Maude  stand out a little more from the background.

Then I decided to try my hand at recoloring. I haven’t done this kind of coloring of a vintage portrait before, so I felt it was as good a time as any to try. The end result of that exercise is the last image on the right.
